Opt Out Letter for Utility Company Provider

  1. I didn't know of my rights before then but didn't feel comfortable about the install of the SmartMeter on my home. Was installed recently and given no documentation of install. I want it out. Was done to my neighbor too. (prior to this install, FPL was offering install of Extra surge protection. Surge protectors to be installed in or on the meters we already had for a fee of $9.00 a month. I declined. It is possible that FPL's offer of the xtra surge protection may have been an undercover plan to protect their SmartMeters from exploding or causing a fire to our homes. Also, from a You tube video evidence, an installer said that if we want the Smart Meter removed it would cost $68.00 for removal and we would get billed a monthly charge of $26.00 for their having to send a meter reader to our homes (as they originally had been doing). This control, intimidation and fleecing has to stop! How can I get my removed? I don't want to be arrested.

  2. I too already have a smart meter installed, by Progress Energy, without notice or consent. Is this site still active? Do you have a removal letter? How can I get in contact with the larger movement to resist smart meters in Florida? Thank you.

    1. I live in Orlando, FL, and Progress Energy claims to have installed in our homes digital meters that transmit electromagnetic radio waves that transmit to the company once a month. Progress Energy also told me that there is no opt out for digital or smart meters. I cannot sleep at night and have head aches due to the high frequency radio waves emitted by my home meter. I don't know what to do about this problem. People in Orlando don't care about anything but having fun and food on their table.

      Please help me. Thank you.

  3. I sent an adobe acrobat signed letter (Smart Meter Opt Out) from this website to heidi.ellenberger@fpl.com and within 2 hours her assistant called me back to tell me they would be removing the meter within 5 days. If they do not have your approval they cannot keep this in place. Try it it worked for me.

  4. I have what appears to be a smart meter on my house, but it was installed in 2006. It is a digital meter, but I do not see any wireless device extending from it, and according to JEA no meter reader has been on my property since 2006. Is there a transition device that could have been installed that far back, or were they already installing smart meters at that time?

  5. Does anyone know if Progress Energy in the Tampa area has a opt out option. I need mine out fast.

  6. Yes the digital reader in theory was made to help the person that reads to not have to enter the property so they say it is not "smart" but read this specifications and tll me if this doesn't hurt people : "It is a single direction broadcast meter that is programmed to send out a signal once every 30 seconds which translates to 2,880 times a day and 86,400 times a month.".. thank you guys I will request my digital meter to be removed, will pay all the ask but i lost my health long time and i think this is the main cause...

  7. I want to confirm that FPL does have a "DELAY" list that you can be put on. They are awaiting the Florida Public Service Commission to make a decision whether or not there can be an official opt out. So, get on the hold list and then contact the commission. Do not let the government dictate what consumers should have to buy and use in their own home. We don't have any choice or right to switch to another utility provider. If the commission forces us to take this product/service against our consumer right, then there is no longer any freedom in this country. Make your opinion heard and write them as soon as possible.

I found a list on a Health associated with Smart Meters site… Above are the Symptoms I have had since they have put the smart meter on my home… I get sicker and sicker every day… I barely can walk the pain is so bad… Now for the pass month are so the pain has started in my left arm! I desperately need Gulf Power to remove the killing machine Off my HOME!
I just so happened to read the article last night about those 2 ladies getting arrested (smart meter) then I started to dig and found out the it’s my electric meter that’s making me so sick!
I have medical bills piling up MRI’s, MRA’s, CT scans, ETC…. Neurologist, cardiologist, pain doctors, endocrinologist, immunity specialist, ETC!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I saw a video about the woman being arrested for declining a smart meter and another arrested filming the crew installing it. I also decided to dig for information regarding the smart meter. I am ashamed to say that I don't even know if I have one. However, I vaguely remember them installing something new maybe a year or so ago, but I didn't pay much attention to what it was (usually my husband handles that kind of stuff). With such a busy life, I guess I just didn't bother to find out. I will check my meter when I go outside today, although I am pretty sure that is what they installed based on all of the info. that I have read.
If this is what occured, I'd feel so violated for not being given a choice. We are a family of 6 (4 children). I am responsible for their health and well being and I have to protect them. Reading about the possible effects from these meters makes me sick to my stomach...it makes me wonder if these Smart meters are the reason why I have been up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason...hmmm

  10. I spoke to a lady at FPL this afternoon. I told her that they installed a smart meter without my knowlede or consent. I told her I wanted it removed. After much back and forth about the hazards of the meter, she said they would remove it and put in some other kind of digital meter. She then went on to say they would call me in a few months to let me know how much extra I had to pay on a monthly basis. I almost fainted when she said it would be $50.00 a month, because some one has to come and read the meter. We as citizens have absolutely no rights when it comes to big corporations, and the government.

  17. Many years ago I was in a auto accident. I now have 4 metal plates, 22 screws, dental screws, copper post teeth, metal staples, and wire filaments holding my face together. I'm building a new home and just saw that they installed a wireless smart meter. We have no wi-fi because it gives me one hell of a headache and toothache. We've had the new home hardwired for internet (no wi-fi). We haven't moved in yet. Now I have this wi-fi meter?!!!! How do I get Gulf Power to replace it with a normal non-wifi meter? This will make me sick, I have to be careful where I go because wifi is fricken everywhere now, I can only handle it in small doses, I certainly don't want it in my own home. Home is supposed to be where I'm safe and free from this painful signal bombardment!

  18. The comments that a cell phone is safe are obviously from someone with no understanding of the technology. The iPhone clearly has in writing that you must use it with an air gap and must not place it against the skull or the emissions will be higher than is allowed by Federal Law. The only reason for this is the industry surrounding cell phones lobbied hard to remove any restrictions on the devices. They are VERY dangerous. Also, a microwave oven is extremely dangerous and is surrounded by a special cage that prevents radiation exposure. That is the main reason you can not place metals in to a microwave. A microwave oven will kill any living thing placed within and any leak to the cage will result in serious bodily harm and likely death with prolonged exposure. A microwave oven is often measured in the higher end wattage scale and you may recall that cooking times are reduced with higher watt microwaves. RF radiation is dangerous. Smart meters also cause disruption in wireless devices and a smart meter within radius of a hospital could easily create multiple problems because of the wireless standard used is the same and so is the technology and frequency. If you are confused by this try to remember that cordless phones would often pick up other conversations for the exact same reason. The security is so weak on smart meters a company would not have to pay for data but rather war-drive in a van and intercept signals from meshed meter networks capturing the data of every home and business. Not only is this a concern for privacy, it is also a concern for proprietary operations and technology development. The smart meter operates in a way that a court would never authorize. In an example there was a criminal who had on board navigation and remote support. The government used this two way communication to intercept conversation of illicit activity and the result was the criminal had not gotten in to any trouble because the contract had been violated between the criminal and the in car service provider. Such events further establish that the government is not yet fully aware of this information.

So don't expect any help from the Government on this. The only answer is massive consumer opposition. The utilities, and the goverment, will only see the light when they feel the heat.

Opted out of smart meter for health reasons.
I have been an FPL customer over 55 years same residence. Nothing has change in those 55 years for administration cost and the cost of reading my meter was in the kilowatt charge for electricity I used.
I asked if smart meter users were getting a kilowatt discount for not having a meter reader come out and the reply was no. So it seems to me this is a big profit win for FPL getting the same rate and reducing their staff for profits then turn around and want to charge for services that were provided at no additional cost for 55 years? Hmmm does the work $PROFIT$ at the cost of consumers with no other option available fit?

  28. The past and current rates approved for FPL include the cost for meter readers to go house to house. FPL already has accounts for customers, as well as data, already entered in their system that designates who has what meter.

There is absolutely NO justification for a punitive [meant to punish] fee against those who wish to keep the status quo and no reason for an additional $13/mo punitive fee for meter reading when that cost is already factored into FPL's current charges.

The people who should raise a rucus are the customers who changed to smart meters and are still being charged a rate for their electricity that includes meter readers to go house to house. So if FPL no longer has the expense of house to house meter reading where is that money going? It's now a month to month windfall profit for FPL.

Smart meter customers should demand a $13/mo discount on their billing and status quo customers should NOT have to pay an additional fee for what is already included in FPL's current rate structure.

FPL's shell game with meters, fees and truth twisting must come to an end. But it won't - because there isn't one politician willing to touch the issue for fear of getting electrocuted ['Westinghoused'] by the lobbyists of General Electric [GE] the producers of this first 2.0 version of the smart meter.

Just wait 'til you see what the upgrade to their 2.1 version has in store for you!!! You ain't seen nothin' yet.

  37. Lord, quite a lot of hysteria here. Smart meters are simple components of a larger Smart Grid. Our electrical grid is severely out of data. These components are part of a simple progression to update the grid and make it safer and more resilient. Additionally Smart Grids allow the adaption of alternative energy and reduces the average household power bill.

Regarding some of the silly comments about health...kids, there is simply no scientific bases to any of these claims. Elementary physics makes such notions impossible. Don't believe me? Take College Physics, Introduction to Electrical Systems, graduate level Biological Principles, Environmental Systems and Human Risk (I have taken all of these). Then all the bogus crap about misunderstood health risk from silly little electrical components will no longer keep you up at night. And the idea of suing the power company for using these would seem laughably absurd.

I am an Environmental Engineer. I am not an employee of any power company. But my title obligates me to protect human health and well-being. Smart Grids are a critical path to clean, efficient, and resilient power distribution.

    1. Stop with your uninformed bullshit, there is a huge difference between smart/ digital meters and the old school reliable analog meters. The Difference is the high frequency voltage spikes being sent through the circuits of the house. This occurs because digital meters have a component called a switching mode power supply, Its function is to ‘step down’ the 240v alternating current (AC) coming in from the utility pole power lines to the 2 to 10 volts of direct current (DC) required to run the meter’s digital electronics which record the electricity usage data. This function also affects the electricity running into your house, probably just because of poor engineering. The SMPS function emits sharp spikes of millisecond bursts 24/7.

When current flows through the wiring of a building it generates a surrounding electro-magnetic field that radiates outward all around the wires at right angles to the direction of the current’s flow and reaches out into the room. The SMPS on the OWS 514 NIC model, for instance, which is the smart meter model widely installed by PG&E throughout its territory (notably, California), has been measured to emit spikes of 50,000 hz and higher. These spikes create an EM field from the wiring in walls many times stronger and more dangerous than a traditional analog meter, which does not have a switching mode power supply. Analog meters keep a steady 60 hz running through your house, which is obviously better than 50,000 hz.

NOT TO MENTION SINCE THEY CLIMBED MY FENCE AND ENTERED WITHOUT PERMISSION INTO MY LAUNDRY ROOM TO INSTALL THEIR SMART METER MY BILL HAS RISEN I AVERAGED OUT THE LAST 5 YEARS MONTH TO MONTH IM PAYING $18.94 more and yet fuel prices havent been this low in 8 years check it out you'll see

  38. And, yes, there is absolutely a justification for a punitive fee for not using the Smart Meter. Think of the grid like a river. Think of the Smart Grid as redesigning that river channel to move water faster and smoother. If you, and a bunch of other misinformed customers, demand to keep your old technology this acts like dumping a ton of rocks in the flow of that water. You are, essentially, impeding the implementation of a better system. I know the public would like us engineers to design solutions for problems without actually affecting anything in their personal lives. This, however, is impossible.

  39. 1. The short bursts of RF radiation, typical for digital, pulsing transmission of Smart Meters, are not considered to be harmful per FCC standards. The biological and neurological effects of exposure to RF radiation are totally disregarded in spite of thousands of studies proving that RF radiation negatively affects our well-being.
How powerful are these radiation bursts? Up to 2500 milliwatts of electrical shock could zap our nervous system for up to 6,000 times a second. This pulsing radiation was measured from the distance of about 2 feet from the meter. You have to remember, the closer to the meter, the higher the radiation exposure.
    .
    2. The FCC standards are very dated. The agency still employs the 1991 standards, which have been modified only slightly since their implementation, and do not include any studies conducted after 1986. One can ask why, despite of all the talk about RF radiation, is the FCC still using standards created 20 years ago, established before the dawn of digital communication?
Because of the FCC inaction or, as some suspect, delaying tactics, it is up to individuals to ensure that our exposure to RF radiation is as short as possible and radiation is as low as possible. Find yourself some radiation shields both for the meter and the inside wall of your home. Smart Meter shields are sold on the web.

  46. Good site.
    FDA!FDA!FDA!FDA! type extensive testing omitted?

I consider the smart meter an accelerated aging frequencies medical device.

Smart meters parts appear to be an adaption of a frequencies medical device which go back to Malta and Egypt resonance rooms and symphony writers who wanted to induce good feelings and warlike feelings in people nearby.

I am an engineer who worked in 12 foreign countries, on AI computers, radio equipment, microwave et al communication equipment, data bases, frequencies instruments and other systems associated with radiological warfare systems. I signed no nondisclosure agreement and the smart meters and radiological warfare systems have approximately the same parts as an extremely well researched frequencies medical system which is well known, mainly in other countries and is approved the USA.

Smart meters would fail the FDA monitored testing which have already been done on the frequencies medical system.

All advocates should look into the frequencies emitted as well and the power levels.

A number of good frequencies medical devices use the same technology but decades of research were spent to get FDA approval, and the basic technology good and bad frequencies, goes back about 1900 in the electrical then electronic form.

The good frequencies medical devices use similar "parts."

    1. smart meters have an inappropriate power supply, but my frequencies medical device uses an ANALOG POWER SUPPLY which is a notch filter around 60HZ excluding most other frequencies, not a DIGITAL POWER SUPPLY which puts out some good frequencies BUT DIGITAL POWER SUPPLY also puts out bad body tissue damaging frequencies (Pavlof, Stalin's buddy). This is the first step in making a smart meter become a radiological warfare weapon which also contains a transceiver radio which can pick op back noise. If it walks like a duck....maybe the wrong people designed the smart meters.

    2. The smart meter also has continuous data trains which can also emit multiple bad frequencies.

    3. The frequencies medical systems use extremely low power, especially on their mode of quantum waves which can travel thousands of miles.
    Pulses are almost never needed.

FDA!FDA!FDA!FDA! type important extensive testing omitted?

Two options and I want the first on my house:
    1. My family and crew were poisoned with raw sewage in the middle east because on crew member made alcohol. I want the analog meter back on my house for the resulting severe health damage. SSA approved me for disability and my power company installed a smart meter over my objections 16 years ago and again recently.

    2. If utilities want a very simple, low bad frequencies emitting smart meter, build a fiber optics internet system and MAKE MORE MONEY as existing internet systems are too expensive.
Also test all smart meters by FDA and private industry rules for medical device safety.

By the way, the Dept of Justice contracted under the President O Man the massively increase the function of the Carnavor(sp) immoral data collection system. A certain special attn....well
Wonder if smart meters here, forceably? connected to private data systems-utility graphing, then are connect to...
